Ocean Journey Week #2

$0.99

This lower elementary ocean zones unit introduces students to the three main ocean layers—Sunlight Zone, Twilight Zone, and Midnight Zone—through interactive, cross-curricular activities. In ELA, students learn new vocabulary, explore informational texts, and illustrate each zone in their Ocean Journal. Math lessons involve sorting ocean animals into categories, counting them, and discussing comparisons. Science activities include creating an “Ocean Zones in a Jar” model to explore light penetration and liquid properties. Social studies lessons highlight ocean-related jobs, with students drawing and role-playing these careers. Arts and PE activities feature fish printing inspired by Japanese Gyotaku and sink/float experiments that build observation and prediction skills. Ongoing activities encourage regular ocean-themed reading, journaling, creature identification, and sensory play, with culminating projects such as an ocean diorama, “Ocean Expert” book, or an Ocean Celebration, and an optional field trip to an aquarium or marine center.
