London, England Journey

$0.99

This introductory London unit uses a cross-curricular approach to help kindergarten students explore the city of London and the United Kingdom through literature, geography, science, social studies, and creative play. Students are introduced to the setting of A Bear Called Paddington and begin a London Journal by drawing Paddington’s arrival at Paddington Station. They locate London and Melbourne on a map, compare distances, and count countries and oceans between them. In science, they investigate London’s daily weather and compare it to Melbourne’s climate, discussing appropriate clothing choices. Social studies activities introduce key London landmarks, and students choose one to draw. Creative learning is extended with building block recreations of landmarks and role-playing a trip to London—packing a suitcase, “flying” on a plane, and serving airplane snacks. Parent-child connections are built into each activity to encourage discussion, shared exploration, and hands-on engagement at home. Read-alouds such as A Bear Called Paddington, National Geographic Kids: London, A Walk in London, and This is London provide cultural context, while playful activities make learning about London interactive, memorable, and developmentally appropriate.
